September 2013 Statistics

September 2013: September was another busy month in the media center. Over 5,000 items were circulated and almost 2,200 students visited the library during September.

We have spent the last few weeks working with Destiny, our online library catalog. Students in grades 2-5 have learned how to log in to their library accounts and check out electronic books. The students have also been exploring some of the databases available for home and school usage. The links to the databases are on the media center home page. The Woodland Elementary Charter School Media Center Home Page is located at http://fcsdestiny.fultonschools.org. Scroll to the bottom and click on Woodland Elementary Charter School. Students can log on to their personal account by using their student ID as the user name and 12345678 as the password.

Using our Resources!

The students in grades 3 – 5 are practicing logging into their individual library accounts and using the catalog to find printed books, electronic books, and websites. In addition, the students are finding answers to specific content related questions by accessing information found in GALILEO and NetTrekker.
The students pictured above are from Mrs. Bernstein's 4th grade class.

Kindergarteners use Tumblebooks

Students in kindergarten visit the media center to check out books on a weekly basis. They also visit twice every 5 weeks for a 45 minute block. During this first 5 week rotation, the students are learning about print and electronic books. Our kindergarten students are viewing electronic books on Tumblebooks. The Tumblebooks database has “animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.”

The Media Center Home Page has a link to the database. The Woodland Elementary Charter School Media Center website location is http://fcsdestiny.fultonschools.org. Scroll to the bottom and click on Woodland Elementary Charter School. Save this site as a favorite!

The user name to access the Tumblebook database is “woodland” and the password is “books”. Enjoy this resource!

Summer Readers invited to breakfast in the Media Center

Woodland students that participated in a Summer Reading Program with a local library were invited to have breakfast with Mrs. King in the media center. The readers enjoyed mini chicken biscuits, donut holes, fruit, milk and orange juice. We had all girls this year. Not only are they excellent readers, but they also used good table manners and helped clean up!
