1st Grade - Alphabetical Order

Students in the first grade have been learning about alphabetical order in the media center and in their classrooms. To reinforce this skill in the media center, we read a story from Tumblebooks called ABC Letters in the Library. We then practiced a game on the computer using alphabetical order. Students need to know alphabetical order in the library because our Easy, Fiction, and Biography sections are in alphabetical order.

The students in the pictures are from Mrs. Collins' class. They are using the computer game and the interactive projector and whiteboard to practice their alphabetical order skills. They are doing a fabulous job!

2nd grade - Webquest - Georgia Regions

Mrs. Harlan's 2nd grade class has begun a webquest on the regions of Georgia. The students are being introduced to the Georgia regions in their classroom. The students are then coming to the media center to learn how to use print and electronic resources for gathering information. The students are learning to use GALILEO (Georgia LIbrary of LEarning Online)for research. Additional websites have been selected for the students to view for collecting information on the Georgia regions. Mrs. Harlan and Mrs. King are working together to help the students learn to gather information, record the information, and create a project presenting the information to others.

SS2G1 The student will locate major topographical features of Georgia and will describe how these features define Georgia’s surface.
a. Locate all the geographic regions of Georgia: Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau.
b. Locate the major rivers: Ocmulgee, Oconee, Altamaha, Savannah, St. Mary’s, Chattahoochee, and Flint.
