Kindergarten - Itsy Bitsy Spider song

This week in the media center, Mrs. King read the fiction story of the Itsy Bitsy Spider to the kindergarten students. The students then sang the Itsy Bitsy Spider song for Mrs. King. Finally, Mrs. King shared a nonfiction spider story with the students. The students are excellent listeners!

Mrs. Roy's class is featured in the video. (Thank you, Mrs. Roy, for leading the singers!)

If you have internet access at home, then you have access to all of Woodland’s electronic resources – ebooks, databases, and audiobooks – through Fulton County’s new vendor MackinVIA. MackinVIA is a complete eResource management system providing easy access to eBooks, digital audiobooks and educational databases. With just one login user name and password, users can view, utilize, and manage all of their eResources. MackinVIA can be accessed from any device.
In the upper right hand corner of the Media Center Home Page, click on “log in”. The student’s 10 digit identification number (barcode number/lunch number) is the user name. The student’s 8 digit birthdate is the password. Then click on the colorful “MackinVIA” logo on the Media Center Home Page and log in again. Use the same student user name and password.

If you have any trouble accessing the resources, please contact Deana King, Media Educator and Technology Instructor, at kingd@fultonschools.org.

5th grade Civil War activities

Fifth grade students at Woodland Elementary School recently brought history into the classroom with the help of a “Traveling Trunk” borrowed from the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. The trunk held reproductions of soldier uniforms, metal dinnerware, and other daily use items of the 1860s. Students had the opportunity to try on a uniform, research the Civil War, and create hardtack – a simple, long lasting hard biscuit made from flour, salt, and water – as part of their instruction. The students also had their pictures made in the Civil War uniforms. Mrs. Kamisha Botts, Woodland’s Technology Specialist, assisted the students in editing their photograph using the PicCollage application on the iPad. The hands-on activities were fun and kept the students focused, engaged, and learning.

Summer Reading

Summer is almost here! We are pleased to announce the Fulton County School’s Summer Reading Lists. Please find the list at this link http://www.fultonmeti.org/summer-reading-list.html

A PDF is also available at the link. A committee of media and educational technology instructors from all levels, elementary, middle and high school worked to compile the summer reading list. The summer reading committee selected titles based on their appeal to students. The goal of the summer reading list is to provide students with a wide variety of books to enjoy during the summer months. Students may wish to read works from other level lists as appropriate. It is our hopes that the summer reading list will encourage students to make reading an essential part of summer vacation.
